Kununurra and the Kimberley region

This is where we live.

Kununurra is at the eastern gateway to the Kimberley region of the north of Western Australia and is approx 40kms from the border of N.T. The Kimberley region stretches approx 1,000 km from Kununurra in the east to Broome in the west (approx 420,000 sq km), and total population is approx 50,000. Other towns in the Kimberley are Halls Creek, Fitzroy Crossing, Derby and Wyndham.

We have a Wet and humid season over the Christmas period (Dec- Mar) and a Dry Season (Apr-Sept). Oct and Nov are called the “build up”.

Kununurra’s population is approx. 7500 people, with half of these being Aboriginal. Major industries are mining, agriculture, tourism and retail.
